GreatGrub is a revived food and storytelling hub inspired by the spirit of ancient bards, where meals spark connection and stories bring flavor. It now returns with its classic content, a fresh design, and a renewed focus on recipes, stories, and thoughtful recommendations.
Founded by Andrew Sachs, a theater director turned home cook, GreatGrub celebrates exploration in the kitchen and connection at the table.
Project Overview
GreatGrub was a beloved food and storytelling site that had been with minimal support for over 15 years. We brought it back to life with a custom redesign, improved structure, and modern tools.
All of the original content was preserved and migrated, while the platform was rebuilt to run faster, work across all devices, and support future growth, honoring its legacy while making it ready for what’s next.

The solution
The site was rebuilt using a custom WordPress theme, integrating Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) to give editors full control over content structure and layout. Legacy content was carefully migrated and enhanced with improved design elements and modern editorial tools.
We also implemented Azure AI services to support content augmentation and ensure scalability. To streamline development and deployment, we set up a CI/CD pipeline using Azure DevOps. The result is a stable, flexible platform built for long-term growth.

We implemented a CI/CD pipeline using Azure DevOps to automate deployments and simplify ongoing maintenance. The site was migrated from its legacy server to a modern hosting environment, enabling faster load times, better uptime, and more control. We also integrated a CDN to improve global content delivery and performance.
With version control, build automation, and streamlined testing, the development workflow became more efficient and scalable. Additional third-party services were connected seamlessly, ensuring the platform is reliable, extensible, and ready for long-term growth.

AI-Powered Content Enhancement
To breathe new life into legacy content, we integrated Azure AI services to generate high-quality images and enhance metadata across the site. This allowed us to enrich over a thousand posts with visually engaging content and structured data without requiring manual effort.
The AI augmentation helped retain the original storytelling tone while adding a modern layer of relevance and appeal, improving user engagement and discoverability across platforms.
